List of World’s Best 50 Bars for 2019 has been published

Dante, a watering hole in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NYC, has received top honor by The World’s 50 Best Bars for 2019. The list is compiled according to votes made by over 500 drink specialists around the world.

The Manhattan bar, founded in 1915 as Caffe Dante, was reopened in 2015 by Australians Linden Pride and Natalie Hudson. “At the heart of their mission was to renew the bar, while being authentic to its roots and appealing to the Greenwich Village community,” The World’s 50 Best Bars writes on its website. “So the classical décor was given a lift, and in came refined but wholesome Italian food, aperitivos and cocktails. There is a whole list of Negronis to make your way through, but that’s OK because Dante is an all-day restaurant-bar. The Garibaldi too is a must-order. Made with Campari and ‘fluffy’ orange juice, it has brought this once-dusty drink back to life.”

Speaking to CNN Travel, Pride said she was, well, proud that Dante was voted the world’s best bar.

“We could not be more honored to be named #1 World’s Best Bar at the most prestigious of awards ceremony here in London,” she said. “We will continue to focus on our approach to hospitality and creating those special moments for every guest that comes through our door.”

The 50 bars on the list span 26 cities and 21 countries. Dante is one of six New York bars on the list, and one of three to make the top 10. The others are The NoMad at number 4 and Attaboy at number 7.

Other cities in the top ten are London (Connaught Bar and American Bar), Buenos Aires (Florería Atlántico), Athens (The Clumsies), Singapore (Atlas), Hong Kong (The Old Man) and Mexico City (Licorería Limantour).

The Highest New Entry (there were 17 new entries in all) went to Carnaval in Lima, Peru.
